Assam government sets target of creating 10 lakh SHCs in current year: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched an initiative to distribute Soil Health Cards and farm machinery in Assam, aiming for 10 lakh SHCs. The government has increased soil labs from 5 to 22 and has set up 816 village-level farm machinery banks with 95% subsidy from the Centre.

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the distribution of Soil Health Cards (SHC) to the farmers across the state.

He also initiated the process of distributing farm machinery and the inauguration of agriculture knowledge centres at a programme held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra.

Sarma termed the day as very significant as he said that considering the need for farmers’ empowerment, State government has initiated the process of distributing Soil Health Cards.

Simultaneously, along with expanding the distribution of Soil Health Cards to providing incentives to the farmers, government is working for the all-round welfare of the farmers of the state.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in issuing Soil Health Cards way back in 2015.

Taking him as an inspiration, Government of Assam has set the target of creating 10 lakh SHCs in the state.

Four lakh SHCs have already been created.

He said that to examine suitability of agricultural soil the number of laboratories in the state has been increased from 5 to 22. Stating that Central Government has especially acknowledged the initiatives of the State government in agriculture mechanization, Sarma said that his government has also taken the steps for setting up of 816 village level farm machinery banks across the state.

He also said that for establishing these farm machinery banks; Centre has given 95 per cent subsidy.

He moreover said that along with 96 agriculture knowledge banks, steps have been taken under APART scheme to inaugurate 93 offices of Agricultural Development Officer across the state.

He said that sometimes since the paddy procurement centres are far from villages, the farmers need to face additional financial burden in bringing the paddy.

The Chief Minister, therefore, announced that government would provide subsidy to the farmers against every quintal for bringing their paddy to the procurement centres.

This would help in minimizing the transportation cost of the farmers.

He also said that for the ethanol industry, requirement of maize and wheat have increased considerably.

Moreover, State government along with OIL India Limited and Reliance are in the process of producing bio-fuel in the state.

Sarma presented appointment letters to 385 candidates at a function held GMCH Auditorium here today.

With these appointments, the total number of jobs given to new recruits has reached to a staggering 1,25,030. Of the total 385 new appointments given today, 81 recruitments are given to the Directorate of Higher Education, 183 given to the Directorate of Technical Education, 20 are given to State Council of Educational Research and Training, and 101 appointments are given to the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

Sarma said that inching towards two lakh government jobs, the present State government sustaining its commitment to development is working unrelentingly for the people of Assam.

He said that moving forward from the laurels of giving one lakh government jobs, his government has now set its target of completing 1.7 lakh government jobs by 2026.

The Chief Minister moreover said that by the end of May next year another 35 to 40 thousand appointments will be given by the State government through Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) in Group III and Group IV category.

Moreover, recruitments will also be made in Assam Police and Education Department.

Sarma further said that in the last three years, as a result of massive appointments held in colleges and universities across the state, many educated youths got absorbed in the institutions of higher education.

He also said that with the appointment of 101 medical officers in AYUSH, process has started for the appointment of more ayurvedic doctors in the state.

Sarma further said that in comparison to other states, Assam’s average age is 22.7 years.

Therefore, numbers of youth in the state are more along with their inclination to work.

Realizing this, Government of Assam besides government sector is working to create an enabling environment for employment avenues in private sectors.

Industrialization in the state in the last three years including the latest Semiconductor industry in Jagiroad is the testament to the changing landscape of the state.

The Chief Minister also said that Assam has had a black chapter in the recruitment process.

The APSC job scam dealt a blow to transparency and impartiality in giving government jobs.

However, the present State government in its last two terms have brought about complete overhaul in the recruitment process bring transparency, impartiality and merit to its core for appointment.

The result is obvious, merit-based recruitment has become the order of the day. Sarma said that the situation of Assam is such that with little efforts, the state can be steered to a new horizon.

Giving a snapshot of various development works being undertaken in the state, the Chief Minister asked the new appointees to give their best and contribute to the development of the state.
